NAKHCHIVAN. January 30, 2009: “Last evening a man called to my mobile phone and threatened me. The Nakhchivan’s office of the Institute of Reporters Freedom and Safety has been also threatened,” said Malahat Nasibova, correspondent of Radio Freedom/Radio Liberty and Turan Information Agency.

Malahat Nasibova said she received a call from phone number 055 257 08 07. The man with whom she spoke on the phone said he was disabled and he protested against the actions of the journalists, who visited Sadarak region.  The unidentified man threatened to blow up their offices and kill the journalists, if they kept doing what they were doing.

This threats on the journalist of the foreign radio station and a local new agency took place during the time of the visit of the US ambassador to Sadarak region of Nakhchivan.  The US ambassador visited the region in order to clarify the situation with the 72-year-old Ismayil Huseynov, a visually disabled resident of Nakhchivan, who was under police persecutions for more that three weeks now.

The threatened journalists said they informed policemen about the threat and presented audio recording of the conversation and the phone number to them. “We are waiting for the results of the police investigation,” said Nasibova (Turan).
