YAP Established Political Group To Campaign For Constitutional Changes PDF Print E-mail

BAKU. January 1, 2009: The ruling YAP held a meeting on December 31, 2008 in order to establish the Initiative Group, called Yeni Azerbaijan.  The initiative group is established in order to campaign for the referendum on constitutional changes, scheduled for March 18. Ali Ahmadov, Deputy Chairman and Executive Secretary of Yeni Azerbaijan Party (YAP), said the Milli Mejlis decided to hold a referendum on proposed constitutional amendments.

Ali Ahmadov noted that, an Initiative Group should be established for the campaign in accordance with the Election Code.
The
YAP official said the amendment and additions to 29 articles of the Constitution were formed on the basis of the suggestions made by the public, and this initiative was supported by Yeni Azerbaijan Party.
"We think that the initiative group is necessary in order to fully inform the voters about the proposed changes and conduct campaign," he added.

Mubariz Gurbanli, Deputy Executive Secretary of YAP, noted that the Initiative Group will take active part in the campaign in line with the Election Code.
All speakers at the
YAP activity reaffirmed that the economic progress in Azerbaijan has necessitated the Constitutional amendments.
Ali Ahmadov, Mubariz Gurbanli and Siyavush Novruzov were nominated as authorized representatives of the Initiative Group.
After the discussions, the participants voted unanimously for the establishment of the Initiative Group.

The meeting decided to send a notice on the establishment of the Yeni Azerbaijan Initiative Group to the Central Election Commission (APA).
