NIDA Activist Rashad Hasanov Arrested PDF Print E-mail

BAKU. March 14, 2013: This afternoon, police officers not wearing a uniform detained Rashad Hasanov, another activist of the NIDA Youth Movement. he was taken to the Office of the Attorney General's Department on Serious Crimes.

According to Elmin Badalov, NIDA coordinator, Hasanov has requested a lawyer for over an hour, but his demand is being rejected.

On March 9, three NIDA activists - Shahin Novruzlu, Bakhtiyar Guliyev and Mammad Azizov were arrested. The Court authorized three-month detention for thoese activists based on the charges of illegal drug possession and the possession of the explosives. The police claims to have discovered drugs and Molotov cocktails in their houses, but the NIDA activists' families say the incriminating items were planted in their apartments by the employees of the Ministry of National Security (MNS) during the arrest and search of their houses (Turan).
