BAKU. June 19, 2011: Today, the Public Chamber of the Azerbaijani opposition held a rally in Baku. Click here for video Since the Azerbaijani government officials and the police had earlier warned the opposition that the rally would be suppressed, the opposition opted for a flash-mob tactics, rallying in seven different locations in Baku. The opposition activists chanted the slogans “Freedom,” “Resignation,” “Ilham Go” at the central locations of the city near the Icheri Sheher Metro, Narimanov, Neftchiler, Elmlar Akademiyasi, and Inshaatchilar metro stations. The Public Chamber reported that the police detained 40 opposition activists during the rally. The police reported that it sent 13 cases to courts charging the detainees with public disorder and hooliganism. Below are the photos from the opposition’s protest action:
