Lately, complaints have been raised about the particular communication style of the critics of Azeri government. Namely, they have been accused of using insulting terms against those who openly or indirectly defend the Azerbaijani dictatorship. Such name-calling as “suckup” and “toady” to describe their position seem to fall short of the high conversation standards the pro-government forces would prefer to maintain. It should also be noted that the use of police sticks, arbitrary arrests, extra-judicial beatings and torture by the authorities constitutes an integral component of any intelligent and civil public discourse, and does not in any way warrant reverting to demeaning expressions against the government and its supporters.
Indeed, such an important matter deserves appropriate reflection. The question to be answered is: “What would be the non-insulting, diplomatic and respectful, but yet correct and descriptive, term for such groups?” In other words, how would you call the defenders of an obviously immoral regime, while still respecting their extremely sensitive nature and, at the same time, managing to describe the true character of their stance?
If one can come up with a proper term - so much time would be saved and unnecessary tension avoided.
An example that comes to mind, after a long and hard pondering, is the similar case of certain professionals who do not appreciate explicit references to the delicate nature of their work. To assure the politically correct style of reference, some bright minds invented the term “sex trade worker” or, better yet, “tantric engineer”. Instead of using the insulting word "prostitute", they are now widely called by the above mentioned very respectful sounding titles.
Using this precedent, the following polite expressions could be applied to the proud supporters of corrupt tyrannies:
- "honorable conscience traders"
- "oppression tolerance advocates"
- "important body part kissers"
- "dignity and rights abandonment specialists"
- "puppet professionals"
- "career flatterers"
- "corruption defense volunteers"
- "moral sex workers"
- "suckup stability engineers"
So, dear members of the concerned public, do these terms sound respectful enough? And if you fall into the category of the dignified advocates of any oppressive and morally bankrupt system – please tell us how would you like to be referred to in terms of your political orientation.
Please share your valuable opinion and suggestions and help us improve the style of our communications. For the sake of all-national unity and for all pan-national causes!
Sincerely,
Your Undiplomatic and Politically Incorrect Regime Critic
