BAKU. July 8, 2009: Qaynarinfo reports that today the Azeri youth activists Emin Milli and Adnan Hajizadeh were attacked by several people and severely injured by them. The youth activists were attacked when they were having a political discussion in a cafe, located in Baku Boulevard among a group of youth activists. The attackers said they did not like that the youth activists criticized the Azeri government and started beating Emin Milli and Adnan Hajizadeh. Hajizadeh’s nose was broken and Emin Milli received bodily injuries. Emin Milli is the chairman of AN network and ANTV, well known youth projects critical of the policies of Azeri government. Adnan Hajizadeh is one of the founders of another popular youth movement, called “Ol”.
“Ol” is another youth movement largely criticizing the policies of Azeri government.
The police arrived to the scene of incident, arrested the attackers and the youth activists. Due to the received injuries Emin Milli and Adnan Hajizadeh were taken to the hospital. After receiving an initial medical treatment, the youth activists were taken back to the police station.
At the time of the report, Qaynarinfo informed that the police isolated the youth activists at the police station and refused to allow their lawyer Isakhan Ashurov to contact them. At 23:00 a number of youth activists gathered around the police station where Emin Milli and Adnan Hajizadeh were held. The youth demanded to get information about the status and physical condition of their friends. The police responded by attacking the youth. As a result, Tural Abbasli, chairman of youth organization of Musavat party was severely beaten by 5-6 police officers (Azerireport). |
